The present continuous tense Exercise
1. Complete these sentences in the present continuous tense, using the verbs in brackets.
Study the picture and the examples.
1. Helen ……………………. (study) music at university. Helen is studying music at university.
Linda is watching television. (1) 2. Tim ………………………. (visit) his grandfather in Liverpool now.
She isn’t reading a book. (2) 3. The boys ………………………. (swim) in the pool at the moment.
As you see in the examples above, we use the present continuous tense to express actions happening at or around the time of speaking or writing (1,2), a future action together with a time expression referring to future (3), an action bothering us or emphasis on the continuation of an action (4,5). We generally use now, at present, at the moment, etc.with this tense.
NOTİCE : We can’t use all verbs in the present continuous tense, e.g. see, like, hate, etc.
